Day 06 (Wednesday, 19 Nov 2008)
Similar to the previous post, I have no photographs for this day. I am way too lazy to bring down my camera since there were way too many places we could not take any pictures. So, I thought of saving trouble and not to bring my camera where ever I went.
However, my second day to Shanti-dan was not as good as I have imagined. In fact, I was afraid to go there. After our first day at Shanti-dan, some of the other girls told us that some of the other volunteers suggested them to cover their head with a cap or bandana whatever. Why was this necessary? This was because many of them have head lice; therefore it was necessary to take some precaution. After I heard that, I was so damn afraid that it would happen on me, so I decided to shun them as much as possible. I know I am way too insensitive towards their feeling, and I am very sorry with what I have done. Once I reached Shanti-dan, I wore my class hoodie on, covering my head. Fortunately the temperature there was not very hot, or I would have gotten heat stroke. I guessed I am way too guilty to say what I have done; I shall let it buried deep down… …
It was followed by our lunch at a restaurant before we went to visit even more places in Kolkata. We went to the Dakshinewar Temple, which was situated near a river. I saw lots of dogs, monkey, cows and chicken running around the places; I thought I was in a farm! I enjoyed crossing the Hoogly River by the Ferry to Belur Math. I thought that the so called ‘ferry’ looks more like a ‘sampan’ to me, I cannot believe that it usually carries 40 people before it finally cross the river. Wow! 40 people! But for our safety reason, we paid the full amount for the ride of 40 people for the 29 of us. I love the ride across the river, even though it stinks a little. The sunset was very lovely; the scenery from the ferry was awesome; the feeling of the wind blowing on my face was great; everything seems so good. The ride took quite awhile before we reached the opposite end.
Belur Math was a very nice place, not only looks majesty but also quiet. That was a place where some people were mediating, therefore we have to be silence at all times. The place looks like ‘Bali’ to me; I thought that it would be nice if it was a resort form tourist. The scenery was awesome; the air was fresh; a very nice place to mediate. I guess the funniest thing occurred when many of us wanted to visit the toilet. Like Singapore, we got to pay before we visit the toilet. Basically, we have to buy a ticket to visit the toilet from a booth. At first we thought that we have to pay 250 rupees to visit the toilet, so everyone of us was complaining why do we have to pay 250 rupees ($8.33) just to go toilet, was the toilet made of gold? But some of them really need the toilet, so I offered to pay for them first since many did not bring their money with them. I told the person I wanted 4 tickets to the toilet, and gave him 1000 thousand rupees. He pushed the money back to me and shook his head. I took out more notes along with some coins and pushed it to him again. Instead, he took a few coins and returned me the rest of the money along with the tickets. OH! Now we got it! I hope you got it too.
It was quite interesting to hear from Kar Wee that he gave 1000 rupees to buy a ticket, however the person do not have enough change, so he treated him to the toilet. Woah!
After our dinner, we then went back to the hotel. If I am not wrong we have another de-brief. However, it took place at the rooftop instead at level 6. During this sharing of experience, Joanne and I confessed to everyone about what we did when we were at Shanti-dan. I felt much better after that. After all this ended, it was party time! We had party almost every day since we moved up to the penthouse. It was nice to have a party at our room, crapping and gossiping. I did not know guys like to gossip. Opps!
I am glad that through today experience I was able to find someone to share the thoughts to. It was Joanne, the one who God sent. I was surprised to hear from Joanne that God also told her that He has sent someone for her; we cannot believe it was one another. I am happy that I have finally found someone who I could really share my thoughts with; she is like a spiritual buddy to me. Except we are not very spiritual! But it was great to have someone who thinks the same way as you; the same depth; the same feeling. This is surely God’s blessing.
