Day 02 (15 Nov 2008)

We started off our day by having our breakfast in the hotel. In fact, we had breakfast there every day. Surprisingly, we turned out to be the second earliest group of the day. Why is this so? All thanks to Pohee who saw the wrong time! We woke us up at Singapore time of 7.30am. Please, at this hour, it was only around 5am in India. Oh my! She deserves a beating, still slam her pillow on Wendy. (Just joking)

We visited the Chowringhee high school straight after our meal. It was rather an old and small school situated along the long stretch of shops. I could not tell that it was a school if our tours guide A.D (This is how we address her. Indian name is way too hard for us to pronoun) have not told us about it. We were warmly welcomed by the Interacters of their school as they stood right at the door step to welcome us. After some brief interaction with them, we went to carry out the ‘Feed the poor’ project. We assisted them in distributing free food to the poor, which they have carried out in a weekly basis. I was totally impressed by their determination and commitment. Time seems to pass so fast, and then it was the time we have to leave for lunch.
The restaurant we were heading was within walking distance. It was situated in a nearby hotel, which I heard that was a better hotel as compared to the one we were staying. Indeed, the food at the restaurant was awesome. We enjoyed ourselves with the delicious food and dessert, followed by our photo taking session. Basically, this is part of my class culture, taking photos whenever we go.

A.D then brought us for a city tour around Kolkata. Honestly, we only visit 2 attractions on that day. First, we went to the Botanical Garden. Do not ask me why we were heading there, I have no idea too. The mosquitoes there were totally feasting like mad. We were like a free lunch to them! We went to take a look at this famous tree which was so huge. Other than the size, I cannot remember anything about that tree. But I was excited when we visited the Victoria Memorial. I was impressed by the magnificent and majesty palace like building. Other than the word ‘fabulous’, I cannot thought of any word to express my words over this building.
We had a quick dinner at some restaurant, which I do not remember where it was already. But the food generally was still not bad; at least it does not give me any stomach ache. We hurried to the Academy of Fine Arts after that to watch a performance. We fell asleep during the play, but seriously they cannot blame us for it. Please, there was no subtitle for us. How are we supposed to understand Hindi?

We then return back to the hotel after the performance when we have our supper. Yvonne, Joanne and Siti came down to join us for cup noodle supper with us (Wendy, Pohee and me). Fortunately, there was another mattress available for us, but our room was way too small to put it. I volunteered to sleep on the mattress because I was afraid that I would fall off my bed. The second night was indeed better than the first night. End of story.
