8D7N India (Kolkata) Exchange Programme
Day 01 (Friday, 14 Nov 2008)
I was feeling very excited about this trip, and I can’t wait to board the plane now. My family went to send me off at the airport, and have our dinner at Sakae. I was surprised to see both Phoebe and Wendy’s families at the restaurant. I introduced my friends to my parents. I thought that I had brought too much things for my trip, but I was so shocked to see their luggage. Phoebe one was the ultimate one. The biggest among all of us, I mean the entire group. It seems as if she was going to be away for a month! But that was not the main point.
I checked in along with the group, and was informed that my flight was delay. We were pretty glad about it because this means that we could have more time to shop after checking in. There wasn’t much for me to buy, so I accompanied the rest to buy their stuffs. Time seems to pass very slowly, but the time for me to board the plane eventually came. Upon our check in, we were told that our group would be dispersed rather than seating together as a whole group. But that doesn’t affect me at all; I was sitting together with Pohee.
At the very moment the plane took off, there was a strong urge in me that I would miss home. I usually go for holidays with my family, and this was the first time I am going with my friends. So, the feeling was different. However, this feeling slowly fades away as time goes by. I simply enjoyed my dinner on the plane. We have 2 options for our dinner, either the India or the International cuisines. Of course, I chose the international one. I loved the dinner so much that I even finished Pohee’s share. Perhaps I was too hungry then, I even intended to finish Phoebe’s share. But I didn’t.
Upon arriving at Kolkata, Phoebe and I were surprised that the airport was so simple. As compared to Singapore, I guess the Kolkata airport would rank very far back. We were so impressed the ‘efficiency’ at the airport. We took roughly a minimum of 30 minutes to collect our luggage. It simply took too long! The air in Kolkata was terrible. The polluted air made most us sneeze and cough as we load our luggage on a coach. Then, we head towards our hotel, Pan Asia Continental. We were assigned into groups of 3; I shared the room with Pohee and Wendy.
I was shocked to see how ‘big’ our room was. I thought the room should be big enough to hold 3 people, but there was just a double size bed for the 3 of us. The first night sleeping at the hotel was not good at all. We were simply not use to the bed and everything else. We were exhausted, but it was fun.
